Course summary
Skilled teachers make a difference to the lives of those they teach. This teacher training course is designed to enable you to become a qualified, passionate teacher of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics in Secondary schools.
We encourage you to embrace the professional qualities and attributes that successful teachers need, including:
the ability to inspire, engage and motivate learners in your subject
a commitment to inclusion and your pupils wellbeing
impeccable personal and professional conduct, and
the ability to reflect on your own progress and continue to develop.
With our support, youll become an empathetic and skilled teaching professional who is responsive to the needs of all pupils. Youll have a positive impact on those you teach – from the beginning of your training within schools.
Help your students understand the world and their place in it
Explore fundamental questions about Religion and Worldviews.
In our increasingly globalised and connected world, our Religion, Philosophy and Ethics PGCE takes an open and exploratory approach thats designed to fully prepare you for teaching Religion and Worldviews in a multicultural context.
The study of the method and practice of teaching of Religious Education, secularism, different cultures and philosophy is an integral part of the programme. Youll attend lectures, seminars and workshops, and give presentations to your peers. Youll also have the chance to listen to visiting speakers and to make connections with local faith communities to enhance your own learning.
Alongside developing your subject knowledge, your time in placement schools will equip you with the planning and organisation skills needed to be a successful RE teacher.
